Switch to solar today and make most of the solar financing programs
In the sunny city of Canberra, harnessing the power of solar energy has become a popular choice for homeowners seeking sustainable and cost-effective solutions. With the increasing awareness of environmental issues and rising electricity costs, solar panels have emerged as a viable option for generating clean energy and reducing reliance on the grid.
In this comprehensive guide, we will explore various aspects of solar power in Canberra, including solar panels, rebates, battery technologies, government incentive programs, and more. To encourage the adoption of solar power in Canberra, the ACT government offers rebates for solar installations. The Canberra solar rebate program provides solar financing incentives to eligible residents who install solar panels on their homes. These rebates help offset the upfront costs and make solar power more accessible and affordable for homeowners in Canberra
When it comes to solar panels in Canberra, there is a wide range of options available to suit different needs and budgets and now with the recent energy bill surge installing solar panels is must as it allows homeowners to generate their own electricity and reduce their dependence on traditional energy sources. The Solar Battery Price in Canberra can be a concern for a lot of people. The cost of solar batteries in Canberra has become a significant factor in the decision-making process for homeowners.
Solar batteries store excess energy generated by solar panels during the day, allowing homeowners to utilize that energy during peak consumption periods or when sunlight is not available. The ACT Next Gen Battery Storage Program offers rebates on batteries, making them more affordable solar and appealing to the ACT residents.
Solar Power and Feed-in Tariffs in Canberra One of the major advantages of solar power in Canberra is the opportunity to earn credits through feed-in tariffs (FiTs). When your solar panels produce more energy than you consume, the excess electricity is fed back into the grid, and you receive credits on your electricity bill. The ACT government offers attractive feed-in tariff rates, incentivizing homeowners to generate surplus clean energy.
The ACT government is committed to supporting sustainable energy practices and offers various programs and initiatives to promote the adoption of solar power. The Sustainable Household Scheme (SHS) is a prime example. Under the SHS, eligible households can access a 10-year, 0% interest loan to install solar panels, energy storage systems, and other eco-friendly technologies. This scheme not only helps homeowners offset the upfront costs but also allows them to repay the loan over a decade without any interest charges.
Choosing Government Approved Solar Panel Installers : When considering solar panel installation, it is crucial to choose a government-approved solar installer. The Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredits installers and ensures that they meet stringent quality and safety standards. Working with a CEC-approved installer provides peace of mind, knowing that your solar system will be installed by qualified professionals who adhere to industry best practices.
Battery technologies have rapidly advanced in recent years, offering homeowners in Canberra more options for storing excess solar energy. Before choosing a battery system, an energy inspection is conducted to assess the energy consumption patterns, roof orientation, and other factors. This inspection helps determine the optimal size and configuration of the solar panel and battery system to maximize energy generation and cost savings.
Solar Financing / Solar Finance While the cost of solar panels in Canberra has decreased significantly over the years, some homeowners may still require solar financing/solar finance support to install a solar system. Solar financing programs, such as low-interest loans and flexible repayment options, make it easier for residents to invest in solar power without putting a strain on their finances. These solar financing options, coupled with government rebates and incentives such as ACT government solar rebates further enhance the affordability and attractiveness of solar power.

Great news for residents of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)! The ACT's regulated retail electricity prices are set to have the lowest increase in the entire nation this July. And you know what's even better? It's all thanks to the city's transition to renewable energy!
The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) has announced that ActewAGL's regulated tariffs will only go up by an average of 4.15%. Surprisingly, this increase is actually lower than the rate of inflation, which means in real terms, we'll see a decline of 2.7%. Meanwhile, our friends in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia are facing much higher increases ranging from 20% to 27%. So, we're in a pretty good position here in Canberra!
Our ACT Government has been working hard to keep electricity prices affordable for us. They've taken some smart measures like promoting a competitive retail market, encouraging energy efficiency, committing to renewable energy, and establishing a strong regulatory framework.
Now, if the full price increase does happen, the average household in the ACT can expect an increase of less than $1.50 per week, which adds up to around $75 over the year. And for businesses, it's even better, with an average increase of less than $6 per week, totaling $289 over the year in their annual electricity bill for 2023-24.
Keep in mind that this decision only applies to ActewAGL's regulated tariffs. The prices for other offers from ActewAGL and other electricity retailers aren't regulated in the ACT. However, the regulated price effectively keeps prices in check for small customers across all retailers due to market competition. This means we have the freedom to switch to cheaper offers and make sure we're getting the best deal.
So, what can you do as a Canberran? It's always a good idea to compare your electricity retail offers against Canberra's reference price. The reference price is like a guide that tells you how much an average household can expect to pay for electricity. Armed with this information, you can shop around and find the best deal that suits your needs.
And guess what? There's more good news! The Federal Government is providing energy bill relief of $175 for households and $325 for small businesses. This will more than offset the increase in electricity prices for eligible customers, giving us some extra money in our pockets.
Our ACT Government is also doing its part to help us manage our expenses. They've put in place various incentives, rebates, and concessions to assist those in need. For instance, the annual Utilities Concession provides over 31,000 Canberra households with cost-of-living support of $800 in the previous financial year, which is directly delivered through electricity bills.
